Why is Today the Busiest Day of the Year for Dentists?

Why is Today the Busiest Day of the Year for Dentists?

St. Patrick’s Day – a day that many spend heavily drinking and sporting green apparel while celebrating the Irish culture. But as we know, excessive alcohol consumption can sometimes lead to unexpected altercations which in turn lead to impromptu dental visits on the following day.

No, this isn’t a joke According to an article on CNBC with data provided by Sikka Software, Today, the day after St. Patrick’s Day, typically sees a 64% increase in emergency dental visits across the United States. This data is based the average visits on March 18 compared to a full months average.

However, this data is not only based on areas with a higher percentage of Irish residents – this data suggests that the American people at large go a little too hard when searching for the luck of the Irish.

Sikka Software’s data showed that Vermont was the ONLY state that did not see an increase in emergency dental visits on March 18. What makes it even more impressive is the fact that that they have one of the largest Irish populations at 17%. Good work Vermont, stay classy.

Delaware on the other hand, which is only 11.4% Irish, saw an increase of over 150%. That’s more than double the amount of visits they would typically receive. Mississippi, Maryland, and Nebraska are also on that list with over a 150% increase.

The data also suggests that the majority of these visits are in fact men with only a few states showing increased visits for women.

We hope this serves as a reminder to stay safe while celebrating! If you did happen to have an accident yesterday, feel free to give us a call to set up an appointment and we will be sure to help put a smile back on your face!
